Between tradition and modernity

Located in a key location overlooking the river and fitted with state-of-the-art galleries, MAP was designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel (AJN), an acclaimed Paris-based firm. The museum is renowned for its extraordinary program of cultural exchange and is a perfect match for the Maison – inspiring it to tell its story in a new way by blending classic documentary modes of display with sensory ones, for an altogether immersive experience. Loro Piana is the first luxury House to exhibit at MAP.

A living legacy

The exhibition unfurls the Maison’s century-old evolution through different themes, chronicled through a captivating tapestry of archival documents, artworks, garments, and more. Starting with the House’s founding story before honing in on dedicated tropes, the 15 rooms draw a rich experience conceptualised through a sensory and tactile lens. From the Icons and the ultra-fine Cashmere yarns magnified with lab-like precision, to the landscaped rooms, the ultra-tactile Cocooning room, and the behind-the-scenes video captures of Loro Piana’s atelier in Valsesia, the installations pay homage to an unparalleled legacy.

The journey to mastery

With a focus on exceptional savoir-faire and excellence in fibres and fabrics, the exhibition uncovers a masterful chain of hands while celebrating the House’s ties to China, home to its iconic Cashmere. Balancing light-heartedness and seriousness, the title captures Loro Piana’s inspiring narrative and alludes to the territories where it sources the world’s finest and rarest raw materials from.

The beauty of artistry

The installation shines the spotlight on various signatures, from iconic silhouettes such as the Traveller, the Roadster, and the Spagna, to tone-setting looks including the Sergio Loro Piana coat, brought to life in a pool setting in a nod to a historic photo shoot. Moving over to the travel-themed rooms, ten standout silhouettes are positioned next to the landscapes where the fibres were sourced from. Ultimate craft is showcased in the thistle-focused space featuring a grand hoop skirt and complementing hat – both in embroidered cotton and silk chiné, adorned with a delicate thistle motif that, over the course of 1000 hours, has been meticulously worked using 124.000 glass beads and 59.000 sequins.
